FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Sigma Delta Tau a Jewish sorority?

We were founded by 7 Jewish women on the ideals of non discrimination. We still stand by these ideals and Sigma Delta Tau welcomes everyone regardless of religion or race.

Do you do informal recruitment?

Yes! At SDT we do informal recruitments and continuous bidding throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Do you haze?

No. The National Panhellenic Council, Sigma Delta Tau, the College of Charleston and the state of South Carolina all have strict no hazing policies.

I'm not a freshman, should I bother going through recruitment?

Yes! Many of our sisters joined as sophomores and even as juniors. It is never too late to find your home.

Do you have a sorority house?

Our house is located at 15 St. Philip right across from the Liberty St. Residence Hall. 10 sisters get the opportunity to live there each year.

I am involved with other things on campus, will I still have time for a sorority?

All of our sisters are involved in other things on campus and we encourage everyone to get involved in other things. We have sisters on sports teams, in a variety of different clubs and sisters with jobs or internships.

How can I balance sorority life with academics?

Scholarship is a very important aspect of the sorority and we even have a sister on the board to help you out if you find yourself needing some extra support. Academics always come first and sisters can often be found studying together.

How will joining benefit me after college?

Once initiated, you are a sister for life! SDT has a huge network of alumnae all over the country. Becoming a member of the Alumnae Association gives opportunities for meeting other Sig Delts, networking, and continuing opportunities for personal growth and giving back to the community.
